“Real estate registration” is a term used in the field of real estate and property law to refer to a governmental or administrative entity responsible for recording and documenting real estate transactions. This entity stores records and documents related to property ownership and transactions. The concept of real estate registration has a long history in Egypt, dating back to Roman times when formal procedures were used to transfer property ownership. Over time, these procedures evolved, and in modern times, they are regulated by various laws and regulations, including the Egyptian Civil Code and specific real estate registration laws.

The Egyptian legal system has gone through several stages of development in the field of real estate registration. One significant milestone was the introduction of the Real Estate Registration Law of 1923, which emphasized the importance of registering property rights. This law was followed by the Real Estate Organization Law of 1946 and the Real Estate Registry Law of 1964.

The Real Estate Registry Law of 1964 is considered the latest law governing real estate registration in Egypt. It introduced several important changes, including the requirement to record inheritance rights to avoid any disruption in the property’s ownership sequence. Under this law, any property right must be registered to serve as proof and to ensure compliance with tax and property-related fees.

Understanding the various real estate laws and regulations, such as the Real Estate Registry Law of 1964 and the Civil Code, is crucial for lawyers dealing with real estate matters in Egypt. These laws govern property ownership, transactions, and the legal procedures related to real estate registration.
